You Just Can’t Keep Going Like This
Another anxiety attack, more exhaustion. You’re overwhelmed by the pressure to be everything everyone expects of you—the “good” one, the successful one, the one who keeps it all together. You try so hard to play by the rules, to make others happy, and not to let anyone down. Yet beneath the surface, you’re anxious all the time, caught in a loop of spinning thoughts that won’t let you rest. “Am I doing enough?” “What if I’m like this forever?”
Lately, the anxiety feels crushing. You just want to run and hide. You just want to escape, to numb out, to not feel, to not think. You have some go-to strategies to do that, but you know they aren’t good for you.
You Have a Sense of Where This Comes From
You know it’s connected to things from your past—things that happened growing up, beliefs you’ve carried with you. Yet you find yourself thinking, “Why can’t I just get over it?” You’re not a child anymore, and logically, you know change is possible. But no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to break free from these patterns on your own. Your partner and friends mean well, but they can’t truly help you with this.
In Your Heart, You Know There’s Another Way
You want to trust there’s wisdom inside you that knows how to change, how to heal, how to feel more peace and joy in life. You think, “Maybe I need to meditate more, clean up my diet, or do more yoga,” but the anxiety is so loud, and it’s hard to hear that wise voice inside you. It’s hard to feel hopeful that anything can make a difference.
I’m Julie, a Psychologist in Brisbane Northside and I can help
I specialise in working with people who feel weighed down by the constant need to please, achieve, and meet others’ expectations to feel “good enough.” Together, we create a space where you can let go of these pressures and begin to accept and appreciate who you actually are—beyond what others want or expect from you.
Let’s Explore What’s Beneath the Surface
Through a curious, open-hearted and compassionate approach, we’ll tune in to the anxious thoughts and painful feelings, listening to what they’re really telling you. I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR, as well as mindfulness, self-compassion and somatic practices, to guide you in understanding and healing from the root causes of your anxiety.
We’ll discover your path forward together, and I’ll use my experience and intuition to guide the process. I’ll be here to listen and help you reconnect with your own wisdom, so eventually you feel this confidence beyond our sessions, transforming your relationships, work, and self-connection.
A Different Kind of Therapy
In therapy, we won’t just focus on the past—we’ll work on shifting old, automatic patterns to help you create new ones here in the present. I’ll be there to validate and empathise, but I’ll also be honest with you, helping you see things you might have missed or might help you see things in a new light. We’ll meet regularly so you have the steady support you need to feel better as soon as possible. And as we go, we’ll notice the good in your life too, making room for moments of joy and humour, even as we do the hard work. And if spirituality is important to you, we can bring that powerful resource into our sessions too.
Finding Peace with Anxiety
After more than a decade working with people facing anxiety, worry, panic and phobias, I know that anxiety itself isn’t something to “get rid of”—it’s part of being human. But it doesn’t have to rule your life. Making friends with your anxiety, learning to listen to it with kindness, can be the path to finding a deeper peace within yourself.
